SpellBound introduces wonder into hospitals through augmented reality

Augmented reality allows us to combine physical spaces with digital set pieces to completely change the way people perceive and interact with our environment. In healthcare, this presents nearly infinite possibilities to transform the way patients experience their hospital visits.

Visitors to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital can hear the roar of Yankee Stadium and take a turn at the bat. Animals in the Bronx Zoo—tigers, koalas, and crocodiles—come to life to be matched with their native continent. An entire subway-themed mural is transformed with SpellBound, where each stop is an invitation to experience all New York has to offer without venturing beyond hospital walls.

With SpellBound, the mural in Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital treats families to the sights and sounds of California’s rich and diverse ecosystem as they walk the hallways surrounding the Serenity Garden. Animals are “hidden” within the mural for children and families to find, which then come to life with narrations and animations.
